Lady of the Play
Lady of the Play is written in parallel historical and contemporary stories, with focus on the life of Elizabeth Trentham, the other Shakespeare. The contemporary story begins with the finding of an original page from A Midsummer Night’s Dream hidden in the cover of an ancient Book of Common Prayer owned by an elderly woman, Sudie McFadden. She contacts a history teacher, Cynthia Parsons, to help her prove her ancestor, the original owner of the prayer book, was the true playwright. Cynthia, with the help of a librarian friend, and an attorney, conduct extensive research to prove Elizabeth Trentham was the true playwright and poet. There is a smooth transition from the modern chapters to the historical.
Lady of the Play
Parallel contemporary and historical chapters take place in Lady of the Play. The modern story begins with Cynthia Parsons finding an original page from A Midsummer Night’s Dream hidden in an ancient Book of Common Prayer for over 400 years. Based on the book’s original owner, she undertakes the research necessary to prove a woman was the true Shakespeare. With each clue, Cynthia uncovers, the story transitions into the life of Elizabeth Trentham. We learn of her innate genius from her childhood, her continued refusal to marry, the ten years as a maid of honor in Queen Elizabeth I’s court, her collaboration with Edward deVere, the 17th Earl of Oxford, and their subsequent marriage. The story continues by answering why they hired an actor, William Shaksper, as their broker and later allowed him to take credit for the plays. Edward died in 1604, and Elizabeth continued with the deception until her death in 1612, the same year Shaksper retired. The modern-day Cynthia faces intrigue, danger, and romance as others try to steal historical documents, thwarting her efforts to reveal the truth. The ending shows compelling evidence that solves this 400-year-old mystery.

In his last hours, Joe enters the world between life and death, known as the world of transition. He reveals to his son, Joshua, that he possesses, a Good Luck flag – Hinomaru Yosegaki, that he had taken from the Japanese soldier he murdered on the island of New Guinea during the battle of the Druinimor River. The flag has handwritten messages from the prisoner’s family and friends, which reveals his identity and the village in Japan he came from. His son, Joshua is under tremendous pressure. He’s separated from his wife, who comes to visit her father-in-law, bringing the two together to face their problems under the gut-wrenching veil of his father’s passing. My Wonder Years
In My Wonder Years, author/poet Jeffrey Pipes Guice presents a moving collection of short stories, poems and photographs from growing up in New Orleans during the 60s and 70s, a thrillingly tumultuous time of sex, drugs and rock n’ roll. Illustrating how we can never really escape our roots, Guice’s journey allowed him to see how searching for a place and a purpose allowed him the space for self-reflection and the ability to see the person he wanted to be. His enlightenment came and from there, a lifetime of self-discovery while striving to become the type of son, companion, father and friend he could be proud of. Guice describes his memoir as a cross between A Streetcar Named Desire and Confederacy of Dunces with a sprinkling of The Big Easy. Brimming with American nostalgia, My Wonder Years will surely resonate with anyone who’s ever struck out on their own to find themselves.

Pathways: Walking Through Creation
Brenda Asterino’s Pathways is a meditation in verse. The cadence in her verses is the heartbeat of the soul. Her striking similes remind me of passages from the Puranas, the Bhagavad-Gita or Buddha’s wisdom. Brenda’s words resonate through the fibers and molecules within the body. Her approach to observation goes beyond the translucid, fragile wings of the bees, the blueness beyond the horizon, the light behind closed doors and the soul within the heart. Life’s fragility is exposed, manifested like a teeter-totter as the poet questions the beliefs created by the cultures we’ve built around us, never sinking but leveling off on the face of this Earth. I am delighted by the element of surprise, the twirls of the humankind as the author beacons us to continue to dance the rhythm of life. —Raúl Sánchez, City of Redmond Poet Laureate.

Resistance, Revolution and Other Love Stories
In this wide-ranging collection of twelve short stories, a startling array of characters explore their perspectives on love. The stories sweep from sharp realism to heady allegory, haunting fables to sci-fi thrillers, starring teens and drifting husbands, futuristic automatons and talking dogs, gardeners and gatekeepers, a blind girl, a young father, and many more.
In “Calamity Jane,” see love through the eyes of teenage boys obsessed with the calamitous girl of the title; revisit the famous Greek love story in “Orpheus and Eurydice”; Dan’s mechanical automaton seems to be his truest friend in the harshly conformist world of “Automatonomatopoeia”; a Crimean revolutionary gets waylaid at a mysterious gate in “The Invitation”; on a construction site in Yugoslavia, a young man tries to come to grips with unconventional fatherhood in “Vikings”; and in “The Conversation”, a blind woman manages her relationship with a hectoring mother while finding other types of love.
These are just a few of the tales in Resistance, Revolution and Other Love Stories. Anyone interested in the struggle against stifling societal powers and the potency of love will see some of themselves in these pages. By turns exciting, meditative, and funny, these enjoyable, thought-provoking stories will linger long after the book is closed.

But such a task is rarely so easy. Assuming they can survive the bandits and ruffians who wouldn’t hesitate to slit their throats for a loaf of bread, not to mention the companies of soldiers hunting them, can they live with the choices they make? The path to revolution is inevitably stained with blood, but how much is acceptable? And who’s blood? Eerion is determined to stop his father and rule the kingdom with justice and mercy. But he can’t shake the guilt of his past. Are his allies right that he is irredeemable in the eyes of man? And can he ever make up for what he’s done, or will he be forever burdened to live with the sins of his past?
