River Smith

A social justice educator/activist and psychologist specializing in post-traumatic stress and relationship healing, River Smith is past co-chair of the National Organization for Men Against Sexism. A former college history instructor, a producer and host of radio and TV shows focused on love & justice, he is also a nationally published poet, eco-feminist commentator, columnist and author of numerous books including Like She is In Him (2019), The Power Handbook (2014) and with Victor Lee Lewis and Hugh Vasquez, Lessons from The Color of Fear: A Teacher's Manual (2007).

As a weekly commentator for a National Public Radio affiliate, an inner-city alternative high school principal, a feature writer for City News, a guest columnist for The Plain Dealer, a producer and host of the AM radio show, The Love Project, and the public access TV show, The Love and Justice Report, River Smith has learned much about life, love, and how to maximize effectiveness and happiness in ourselves, our families, our jobs, and our communities.

Dr. Smith’s work as a psychologist, organizational consultant, professional workshop leader, and author/co-author of five books brings him the skill to entertain and inform an audience on topics from assertiveness strategies in the workplace and transforming our relationships with food, to men’s roles, eco-feminism, sexual harassment, and social justice issues.

As a nationally known poet and accomplished spoken word artist, River can weave a few rhymes, too.

Most of River Smith’s recent talks and workshops have been based on his 2009 book, A CONSPIRACY TO LOVE: Living A Life of Joy, Generosity, and Power (revised editions 2012, 2017, 2022).
