Predominantly a painter D W Whitfield spent his early years in NE England attending Sunderland College of Art before embarking into a career of a Land Surveyor thereby freeing him a dependency on art for financial support, thus enabling him to develope a personal style of painting, exhibiting in USA, England and mainland Europe.

After surveying work in Europe , Middle East and Africa, another change in career to that of psychiatric nurse manager for many years.

Taking early retirement he moved permanently to rural France discovering a long held wish to write, publishing a book of poetry and two books of short stories, where he continues to both paint and write.

The true reward of creativity is in the pleasure and satisfaction gained from an unknown journey and its discoveries along the way towards an unknown goal, which then in turn becomes another path of discovery in word and image.
